Day Twenty Four - So long Vikings!!

Good evening

Today has seen Gordon leave Scandinavia all together and he is now back in the comfort of the Euro. This is a big thing as he has actually spent most of his time in Scandinavia and although its so much cheaper for him now, I think it is hitting home that he is coming home and is so close to completing a journey which has taken a lot of money and effort on all peoples parts to get him this far!

Last night's rough camping has left him feeling like the next ray mears although he managed to get out smarted by some local birds..not the human variety who decided to steal the bread off his bike and wake him up in the process..i wondered whether they chose to have it with the roasted garlic philadelphia on the side, but apparently not! he he

He is in Flensburg, Germany tonight in a campsite called Jarplund and has told me that he is camping next to a Spanish family with their small children who have brought a go kart with them..he was moaning about this, but I bet that as soon as they are in bed, he will sneak over and take it for a spin! lol Maybe he could do the last 1000 odd miles in that!! ha ha

Fun fact of the day is that Gordon has now been through Denmark twice and has not actually stopped over there at all! I think this must be the only country that he will not be stopping on his trip..although I will have to check this fact on gordo-pedia and will report back!

Children seem to have followed him today and I am guessing that it must be the school holidays for some as he said that he took the ferry crossing as an alternative to getting the bridge across from Varberg to Grenaa and he said that there were quite a few screaming Swedish children on there!!

The weather today has been a very mixed picture with pouring down rain this morning and it then turning sunny but very windy..michael fish eat ur heart out..and as for carol on bbc breakfast..move over..theres a new weather master in town!! :D anyway..back to business..due to the mixed weather this has meant that progress has been slower than hoped and so he is keeping his fingers crossed for better travelling weather tomorrow!

On his way to Flensburg, he did stop once in Denmark in Aarhus, another deployment related pit stop for petrol and told me that he just had to buy a cheeseburger from macdonalds so that he could use up the rest of his danish kroner!! I think that's a poor excuse but may recycle that one for when he comes back and i really need a cute new handbag or something..lol He also got very lost following Gord Gord sat nav trying to find his campsite and was trying to go the wrong way down a one way street. Now I am no expert..but i think that cant be right...even if they do drive on the wrong side of the road! lol He also ended up seeing the same train station 3 times! fail!! lol

To celebrate him finding the campsite he decided to treat himself to a 1 Euro shower and bought some big german sausages to have with his smash! Living the dream..as they say!! :)

The plan for tomorrow is to try and get as far as he can and Gordon is hoping to make it to Eindhoven, Holland which will be a-mazing!! I have told him that he must take photos of all the windmills he passes, so he may not actually make it that far into Holland before night fall!! ha ha

As ever, this is dependent on the weather, so fingers crossed..that's it for now.

Suzuki GSX650F review

Hello there, And welcome to another edition of the Arctic Ride blog! My trip might be a distant memory (last year in fact) but there is still plenty to come from me both for Arctic Ride 2014 post trip (like this blog) and future adventures. I'm pleased to announce that earlier this week my blog reached 45,000 views which I am both pleased and humbled about. So with this blog I wanted to share my thoughts on the bike I rode on my ride to the Arctic this year, the Suzuki GSX650F. I've had many people ask me to review the bike and, well, here it is. My GSX 650F and I at the Arctic Circle in Norway As a background in my 9 years of riding I've ridden a smallish cross section of bikes, but I feel it has been enough for me to put some context behind my views on the GSX650F. An example of some of the bikes I have ridden include my first bike, Suzuki Marauder 125, a Yamaha Virago 535, Kawasaki ER5, SV650S, BMW LT 1200, Harley Davidson Street Glide 1800, and a Kawasaki ...

Why is the Dalton so dangerous?

Welcome to The Arctic Rider blog, Its now less than a year until I start my quest to conquer The Dalton Highway in Alaska, one of the worlds' most dangerous roads. The new 'Arctic Ride Alaska' poster I've still got a lot of planing to do and I've been working away in the background to get a lot of things firmed up, but I probably won't know the key parts of the trip, such as the exact dates I'll be going and the bike I'll be riding, until the Autumn. Anything I know before then I'll be staring with all you loyal readers of my blog. In this blog, I'll be covering why The Dalton Highway is so dangerous , and why I'm hoping you will share some of your very hard earned Pounds (and other currencies for non-UK readers) in exchange for the danger and suffering I'll be putting myself in next year. Firstly though, I must say a huge thanks to an unnamed Devitt Insurance employee who very kindly donated their employee-of-the month priz...

Looking back: Arctic Ride Iceland

Hello, Thanks for tuning into another edition of the Arctic Rider blog. Wow, so its been a week and a half since I returned from my epic trip to Arctic Iceland. The dust has settled and I'm back at work.. it almost feels as thought it never happened, a long and distant memory but luckily I have lots of photos to remind me it was real :) Day 12 - Southern Iceland The weather in Iceland completely battered me and I feel lucky to have got through this ride in one piece, having met other bikers who been blown off their bikes in the wind, dropped them on gravel roads, and been soaked to the skin by the rain. The battle against the elements was 100% worth it though to raise so much money for two amazing charities in Tiny Lives Trust and Cerebra. At the time of writing, Team Arctic Ride has raised OVER £5,000 for this ride. I'm honoured and humbled to have had such amazing support from so many dedicated supporters! I will be closing my donation page at midnight 31st July...
